Chemical beam epitaxy machine for growing III-V semiconductor nanostructures.

 

 

 

Research Line

We investigate the direct epitaxial growth by molecular beam epitaxy and chemical beam epitaxy and the electronic properties of nanostructured low-dimensional semiconductors and metals and their applications in novel quantum functional devices. A recent focus is on the development InGaN quantum dots and nanocolumns for solar cells and boosting their efficiency through plasmon enhanced absorption enabled by the position controlled epitaxial growth of metal nanocrystals. Based on this novel and original approach, in the future, we envision far reaching advances also in the fields of highly efficient light sources and detectors, nanosensors for environmental and biomedical monitoring, and quantum optics. The research is carried out at the Institute for Systems based on Optoelectronics and Microtechnology (ISOM) www.isom.upm.es.
