
Richard Nötzel received the Diploma in physics from the Technical University of Munich, Germany in 1989. From 1990 to 1992 he stayed at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart, Germany and received the doctoral degree in semiconductor physics from the University of Stuttgart in 1992. For his work on the direct synthesis of semiconductor nanostructures he was awarded the Otto Hahn Medal of the Max-Planck Society. During 1993 he was with the NTT Corporation in Atsugi, Japan working on self-organized growth of quantum dots for which he received the research award of the NTT Opto-electronics Laboratories. During 1994 he was a Visiting Associate Professor at the Hokkaido University in Sapporo, Japan. From 1995 he was with the Paul Drude Institute for Solid State Electronics in Berlin, Germany where he was awarded the Academy Award of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Science. In 2000 he became Associate Professor at Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands, and stayed from Dec. 2001 to March 2002 as invited Professor at the Hokkaido University in Sapporo, Japan. In 2011 he joined the Technical University of Madrid, Madrid, Spain holding the BBVA-UPM Chair Nanotechnology. His research interests include the direct epitaxial growth and electronic properties of nanostructured low-dimensional semiconductors and metals and their applications in novel quantum functional devices.
