About the speaker

Gonzalo León is Emeritus Professor of Telematics Engineering at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. He is corresponding academics of the Royal Academy of Doctors of Spain (RADE) and of the Academy of Military Sciences and Arts (ACAMI). He is member of several strategic committees of private entities.

At the UPM he was Vice-rector for Research (2004-2014), Deputy Rector for Innovation (2014-2020), Director of the Centre for Support to Technological Innovation (2014-2020) and Rector's Delegate for Institutional Relations in Defence and responsible at the UPM of the DIANA-NATO programme (2021-2024). He has led the UPM participation in many EU research projects, and with the ESA. He was the responsible for innovation in the Human Brain Project (HBP) and of the Spanish node of EBRAINS. He has created three institutional technology start-ups. He was the responsible of four university-industry chairs. He wrote ten books and more than 150 papers and reports.

In the Spanish Government, he was Secretary General of Scientific Policy (2002-2004), Deputy Director General of International Relations in R&D (1996-1998), Deputy Director of the Office of Science and Technology of the Spanish Government (1998-2000), President of the Advisory Committee on Large Scientific Facilities (2000-2002), and has held many other institutional responsibilities.
