About the Master

The University Masters’ Degree in Telecommunication Engineering, through the academic qualification, enables the student to carry out the profession of a Telecommunications Engineer.  Its objective is to train professionals for a sector, that of Information and Communication Technologies, characterised by its dynamism, globalization and economic and social importance, in which the demand for Telecommunications Engineers from the UPM is very high.

The legislation makes up the profession of Telecommunication Engineer, as regulated profession whose exercise requires possession of a formal title of Master obtained in this case, in accordance with the provisions of Article 15.4 of the aforementioned Royal Decree 1393/2007.

The Master's Degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the UPM is a two year programm and 120 ECTS credits according to the current curriculum in UPM (M2013). This Master's degree will enable the graduate to practice regulated Telecommunications Engineer.

The Master constitutes, together with the degree in Engineering Technology and Telecommunication Services as reference level in UPM (and with any degree granting access conditions to the Master contained in the Ministerial Order 352/2009 CIN ), adaptation to the new regulatory framework established by the Organic Law 4/2007 of modifying the Act and Royal Decree 1393/2007 establishing the organization of official university education, title of Telecommunications Engineer who has been taught in ETSIT-UPM since its founding in 1957. Its justification is based on the interest in the field of Telecommunications in today's society of Information Technology and Communication (ICT).

The professional interest is evidenced by the existence of two regulated professions (Telecommunication Engineer and Telecommunication Engineer) with specific legal powers, which have their respective professional associations, enjoy high demand in the business world and are internationally recognized. Current graduates of these professions enjoy high employment, high devotion to technical tasks tailored to your training.

Academic interest is demonstrated by the existence in the Official List of Qualifications of Telecommunication Engineering and Telecommunication Engineer (in its different specialties) taught in various public and private Spanish universities, for a total of 85 titles. The whole Bachelor degree in Engineering Technology and Telecommunication Services and Master's Degree in Telecommunication Engineering coincides, objectives and content, with the above qualifications.

The scientific interest of this degree is related to the interest of Information Technologies and Communications arise in the scientific community. Of the numerous indicators of that interest may be mentioned definition, in the current "National R + D + I", a Strategic Action dedicated to this subject, that of "Telecommunication and Information Society" or intense activity of scientific research and development in these technologies is conducted in ETSIT-UPM, and can be consulted at the Centre for Research UPM: http://www2.upm.es/observatorio/vi/index.jsp
