Zi Haur Pang is a third-year Ph.D. student in the Speech and Audio Processing Laboratory at Kyoto University, under the supervision of Professor Tatsuya Kawahara. During doctoral studies, he was a visiting research scholar at A*STAR, working with Dr. Gao Xiaoxue and Dr. Nancy F. Chen, and at Boise State University, working with Dr. Casey Kennington. His research lies at the intersection of affective computing, human–AI/robot interaction, and spoken dialogue systems. Specifically, he investigates how multilingual, multimodal embodied conversational agents—from virtual avatars to human-like androids—can recognize, validate, and help alleviate human emotions through natural speech. He also studies how an agent’s embodiment and conversational intelligence shape user behavior during interaction.
